The Toshiba Portege 2000 wieghs in at a slim 2.9 lbs, 3.6 with battery pack (or something like that) and seems to fit the bill as a very light, very simple wifi-possible laptop. And on top of it all, it is a real computer rather than a handheld, which means it's easy for me to poke around on. And, it's not too expensive. Sounds like a winner.

Well sure...but where's the CD-Rom? Not included in this model. May not be important to you considering you might just install software from a wireless network, but none the less you might find this a bit annoying.
usb if necessary. I don't want to carry a cd drive if I don't have to. This may be drastic, and excesively minimalistic, but I'm willing to bet the easier the laptop is to carry, the more I carry and use it.
